Flower Power

12 Mar

Spring isn’t officially here yet, but we say why not sprinkle some florals into your wardrobe.  We like this number from alice + olivia. Against a black backdrop, flowers are blooming with this dress. Not just for the botanically inclined, this dress hits all the right notes for spring. With a streamlined silhouette hitting below the knee and a high neckline, this dress is a sure contender for brunch out with friends. Paired with a solid white jacket, this dress easily transitions to the office.  So, whether you already have a full-blown closet sprouting a garden of flowers, or you’re just looking to add some florals to your wardrobe, we say go at it and more flower power to you! —Simone McKenzie

Fresh Start

30 Jan

Start the New Year fresh with a few updates to your wardrobe. We like this satin outfit from Madewell. Borrowing from two trends that dominated the fall/winter 2023 season, this ensemble hits two key trends with one shot. Oversize jackets and monochromatic looks were two popular trends for the season. Madewell’s jacket offers a relaxed and elegant option. Featuring a shawl collar and padded shoulders, the jacket is the perfect choice for a day event or an evening out. With a satin finish and a relaxed fit, the look oozes luxurious comfort and style.—Simone McKenzie

Mellow Yellow

28 Jul

Mellow 2

Summer is here and the color of the season is yellow. The exuberant hue is flattering on most skin tones where the yellow shade can run the gamut from uber bright canary to a subtle pastel yellow. We like this number from ASOS.  The body-conscious dress works well with a white jacket for work or by itself for a night out on the town. For a touch of the unexpected, you can pair a yellow top with gray pants or skirt. Better yet, you can pair this New Look Lace Body-Conscious Dress with gray shoes for a unique blend.—Simone McKenzie

It’s a Wrap

30 Sep

Altuzarra fw14

Fall officially kicked off a few days ago and one of the trends we noticed for the fall season was the arrival of the wrap coat. Luxurious with ample room, we love the simplicity of this coat with a belt to give the silhouette a cinched waist. This two-toned number from Altuzarra fits the bill for one coat that transitions seamlessly from the office to afterwork.—Simone McKenzie

Jean Pool

Rebecca Taylor ss 14

Denim was all over the runways for spring/summer 2014. From loose fitting overalls to boyfriend jeans, it was clear designers were steady wading in the jean pool. Denim looks also came in a variety of washes and textures from faint blue to indigo. Torn and tattered to starched and polished, this season’s jeans ran the full taste gamut. Denim patches were also popular, as seen by this look from designer Rebecca Taylor.—Simone McKenzie

Pretty Pastels

Wu ss 14

Look for a smattering of pastels for the spring summer season. From muted pinks to cool mints, the runways were awash in pastel hues. We like this full-on mint ensemble from designer Jason Wu. From the free-flowing dress topped off with a slouchy coat, the look adds a touch of instant chic.—Simone McKenzie

Spring is in the air! After months of a particularly brutal winter, spring is finally here. Bold prints are still strong and are definitely spot on for the season so we couldn’t help but notice this ribbon print dress from Ann Taylor. Paired with a jacket, it’s the perfect spring attire to wear to work. The print is bold enough on its own but worn with a solid colored jacket tones it down a  notch while still keeping the entire outfit work appropriate.—Simone McKenzie

Fall Fashion

Isabel Marant HM

Fall officially kicked off a few days ago and at Glam Gazette we always look forward to our favorite season with much anticipation and excitement. What ups the ante this season is the eagerly awaited collaboration between French fashion designer Isabel Marant and budget-friendly clothing chain H&M. The collection which will be available November 14 features some effortlessly-chic looks. Not only chic but functional the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection has a certain nonchalance about it. We couldn’t help but sigh with gratitude when we came across this look worn by Alek Wek. The autumnal changes means it’s time to break out the cardigans and sweaters but why not turn things up a notch by pairing them with some leather pants. This one look encompasses the main essentials for fall: black, prints and leather.—Simone McKenzie

White Summer

11 Jun

Stella

Summer may officially kick off next week but we couldn’t wait to rock the spring/summer 2013 trend of head-to-toe white. Whether it’s a white top paired with city shorts and topped off with a white jacket or a button-down shirt worn with pants, nothing says pristine like a full-on white ensemble. The look works equally well at the office. For a pulled together professional look wear a white ¾ length sleeve tunic with gently-flared white pants or capris (if the work environment is business casual). —Simone McKenzie

Style Tip: With an all-white ensemble, throw in a pinch of the unexpected with animal print shoes or bright colored kitten heels.

Fresh Coat

Fresh Coat

The New Year is in full swing and so is winter! To combat the frigid temperatures outside, we thought we would search the web and see what we could find that’s both style-savvy and budget-friendly. Leave it to ASOS to deliver with this flared, belted red coat. We swooned when we saw this one. Loved the cinched-waist (feminine and flattering for most body types), bold statement color and sense of movement captured in the coat’s structure.

As working women, what we really love is the functionality of this coat. It can do double-duty at the office and off the clock. Appropriate to wear to work—check! Perfect to slip on for a night out—check! Price-friendly for the purse—check!

Style Tip:

You can wear this coat a variety of ways:

1)      Buttoned-up with a high collar with belt neatly tucked into loops for a clean silhouette.

2)      Lapels showing with belt casually tied and hanging for a looser look.

Either way you wear it, opt to keep the bottom portion of the outfit lean and stream-lined to keep the focal point on the swing of the coat.

Bottom line: a coat that’s stylish, affordable and functional. Our final verdict—score!—Simone McKenzie
